a little about elissa barbieri

Elissa holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania in Design of the Environment. She has held multiple careers aloft simultaneously; she started Loop in 2007 while working for bulthaup studio, with whom she has collaborated cyclically for nearly 20 years. Elissa loves the rigor of designing kitchens and interior spaces as well as the technical aspects of communicating with contractors and manufacturers.

An attuned sense of detail and understanding of the luxury market informed Elissa’s approach to Loop; she worked to elevate the humble connotations of ‘recycled’ paper into something to be savored and appreciated for its ecological value as much as its tactile experience. Building the brand - from establishing Loop’s graphic design stance, learning about offset printing conventions, to styling and shooting its product imagery and trade show presentation - was an intensely personal undertaking.

Her organic forms and intricate patterns are heavily influenced by nature but realized through the lens of modernism. She seeks in her visual aesthetic to create rules and then stretch them, to establish a scaffolding for free play and the blur the boundaries between traditional mediums of paint, fiber + ink.

With Ness, Elissa has returned to her studio to experiment and share new products as they are created and to deepen her fine art practice.
